Armor of God-Day 6
…and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. Ephesians 6: 15
Yesterday, we learned just as the breastplate protects our vital organs, Christ’s righteousness protects what is most vulnerable. By walking in obedience to Him, we are covered and guarded against the attacks of the enemy. Today, we learn about the shoes that not only protect our feet, but through preparation, allow us to bring good news to the lost.
Soldiers walk a lot…and for very long distances. Shoes are essential for a successful march. When my husband was in the Marine Corps, he and his unit would go for long hikes. Miles and miles of marching with heavy gear loaded on their backs. If they did not take care of their boots and their feet, those marches were miserable. And, they could only march as fast as the slowest man, so if one person was not well prepared, the whole group suffered.
Paul encourages us to fit our feet…to prepare and to be ready to go with the gospel of peace. So, what does this mean?
The gospel is the good news…the opportunity to let others experience the peace of God rather than the wrath of God because of His Son. That while we were sinners, Christ died for us. What a beautiful message to share!
How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation…Isaiah 52: 7
As we prepare and make ready through the wearing of the truth and righteousness of the Lord, we will be prepared to share the gospel with those in our lives.
Beware! The enemy does NOT want you to succeed in sharing the message of salvation. Satan tempted Christ to renounce His Heavenly Father…to thwart the plan of redemption. He will tempt us too!
The tempter came to him (Jesus) and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”
Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’
Then the devil left him… Matthew 4: 3, 10
As Christians, our lives are to be a living testimony of the saving work of Jesus Christ. Being ready to share Christ and his gospel is our battle plan. Being prepared requires intentionality to engage in our relationship with the Lord…to listen, to seek, and to obey.
As we follow His plan, we are prepared for the battles that come!
…be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. 2 Timothy 4: 2
Questions to Ponder:
What is one practical thing that you can do today to prepare yourself to share the good news with someone?
Who shared the good news with you? If you can, thank them today. If that isn’t possible, then share your story with someone new.
What do the following verses say about being prepared: 1 Peter 3: 15, Romans 13: 11-14, John 14: 1-4
