We’re only beginning to scratch the surface
Text: Psalm 139:17-19
Usually the more time you spend with someone the more you know about them. If you think about a marriage, you know the kind where they have been married for 40 or 50 years. These are the people that could practically think on behalf of their spouse. They have spent so much time together that sometimes it can be difficult to generate a new topic of conversation. However, there is something so sweet, so comforting in knowing that someone knows you as well as you know them. What about that relationship where one spouse obviously knows WAY more than the other? Do you know any of those? It’s not uncommon in the earlier years of a marriage when both parties are still learning the wealth of information there is still yet to know about their forever love.
I can speak to the latter of the two. It is difficult to feel like you are important if the one who is closest to you makes little to no effort in continuing to learn all the little things that make you…. you. Herein lies the issue. We are putting so much on a human sinner. They are faulted, imperfect, selfish… just as we are also.
Our passage today focus’ on the MANY thoughts of God. It is noted that there are SO many that there are more thoughts than there are grains of sand. I think I probably pick up more sand in one trip to the beach than I have thoughts in 10 years’ time. THAT STUFF GETS INTO EVERYTHING!!! We run into another opportunity to misunderstand based on today’s definition in comparison to the day of the Psalmist. Here you can exchange precious with difficult. How difficult are your thoughts to me, Oh God!
If we really think about how many people there are, have been and will be and just how much each one of us encounter in our lifetime. Each prayer, each circumstance, each decision. There is A LOT to think about. Then I want you to remember how much you thought about your husband in the months leading up to your wedding…. It is an all-consuming thought process. Or perhaps in the weeks leading up to your first child’s birth. That stuff even creeps into your dreams. This measure of thought is barely even scratching the surface of the multitude of thoughts The Lord has about each one of us.
We have already read that His thoughts are of hope, and peace. Think about that on like super boosting steroids. There are so many thoughts that we will never truly understand, not until we get home with Our Heavenly Father! This is not meant as an excuse to give up and not actively pursue an intimate relationship with your creator. This is support for the cause. We have so much to learn, and while He knows so much about us, leaving us (I hope by now we are beginning to) with a feeling of importance and worthiness. Should we, the other half of the relationship, then also give our all in learning about Him? What do you have to lose? The best friend you’ve never had, the supportive Father with an unconditional love, your Creator, the beginning and the end…. is there, waiting for you to participate in this relationship. The level of intimacy is up to you. He knows everything about you, now it’s your turn to learn as much as you can about Him. Use your days wisely my sisters, and deepen the most important relationship in your life, the one with, The One!
