Day 13 – Answering Him
Text: Joshua 1:1-9
In verse one of our text today it says, “…the Lord said to Joshua…” God was speaking specifically to Joshua. Isn’t that amazing? It also says in verse five, “just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you.” Isn’t that so, so AMAZING? Now, we didn’t read to verse 10, but in verse 10 you see Joshua do what he was told. Hold on, what? Remember a couple days ago, we saw that God called Moses to lead the people and Moses kept making excuses not to do what God was asking? Well, Moses’ replacement, Joshua, does the exact opposite. He listens to what God says and then does it. That is actually the only answer we ever need to give God. Obedience! By obeying what God has called us to do, we are showing God that we love Him and that we are willing to follow Him wherever He leads. Just like Joshua! We sometimes will find ourselves walking in obedience (hopefully) before God has answered our questions completely. We don’t have to have all the answers before we respond to Gods request. In fact, the moment God requests something of us, our answer should be “Yes!” We must also be careful to remember that God will give us little tasks as well as big ones. We are to obey even the small ones. Recently I was approached about donating many baby items that I no longer needed to someone in great need. This isn’t normally an issue for me as I love to help whenever it is needed. But recently, we have found ourselves in a financial transition (to put it politely) and we had hoped to be able to sell off these items to raise some money to help with the moving expenses we have coming up. It seemed odd to me that God would place this situation in my path at this point. However, as I pondered the idea of giving away these specific items, I felt God saying to me, “Give everything she needs, even if she didn’t ask for it.” As I loaded the items into my car to drive them over to this young woman’s house, this verse came to mind. “Whoever is generous to the poor, lends to the Lord, and He will repay him for his deed” Proverbs 19:17. I NEVER want it to be said of me that I refused to obey the Lord. Even when it hurts, even when its hard, immediate obedience should always be our answer.
