A Time to Rest
Text: Joshua 13-22
Recently I had one of those days. I know you’ve had those days too. From the moment you get up to the end of (a much later than you intended) day, everything is a battle. A battle with the kids, their constant battles with each other, a battle with the schedule, a battle with the interruptions to your schedule, a battle with traffic, a battle with people’s incompetence, and on and on it goes. Let me tell you, when I finally did get to go to bed, I craved and savored that moment of peace! Finally! I ran a bath, played some music, and thought of nothing except how long I should relax before I went to sleep.
The Lord had fought for Israel, and as they entered into that Promised Land and divided it up amongst the tribes, we find some of the sweetest verses in Joshua 21:44-45 (KJV). “And the Lord gave them rest round about, according to all that he sware unto their fathers; and there stood not a man of all their enemies before them; the Lord delivered all their enemies into their hand. There failed not ought of any good thing which the Lord had spoken unto the house of Israel; all had come to pass.”
Finally, they had peace. You may be in a battle right now, but God intends for you to have peace. Allow Him to fight for you and he will bring you into a place to rest. He always keeps His promises and wants to give you every good thing.
