Is my delight skewed?
Text: Song of Solomon 7
As I’m sure you know the Song of Solomon is a love letter between lovers. They love each other and they delight in each other. The word Delight here in verse 6 means, “pleasant, delicate, intoxicating.” The man writing this chapter DELIGHTED in this woman. He loved her immensely. He praised God for her and her attributes; physical and otherwise.
My question for you today is this: Do you delight in the Lord as much as you delight in your spouse, family, etc.? It’s easy for us women to get so caught up in our roles that we neglect to spend time with the Father. There will always be “just one” last load of laundry, that sticky spot on the floor that needs cleaning, or something that needs dusting. Do we put those things aside to spend time alone with our heavenly Father?
I like to equate the relationships in my life to a nutritional pyramid. At the top is the Lord, right below that is my spouse and below that are my children. Everything else is jumbled in a big block on the bottom. Sometimes however, this triangle gets inverted when I get my priorities messed up. My housework becomes more important than my family relationships and especially more important than my quiet time with the Lord.
Focus today on keeping that triangle flipped the right way. I guarantee that if you keep the triangle pointed up, with the Lord on top, everything else in life with fall into place.
