Text: Matthew 28:1-10
This is one of my favorite passages in the Bible. Christ rose from the grave! He did something that NO OTHER religious leader could have done or ever will do! His resurrection is the crux of salvation! Not only did Christ die and was buried, but He rose again just like the scriptures said He would! Think back to Jonah who was in the belly of the fish for 3 days and 3 nights. Jonah 1:17, “Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish for three days and three nights.” Now let’s peak at Matthew 12:40, “For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.” Jonah was a metaphor! So cool! What this is also implying is that after the three days and 3 nights were over that Christ wouldn’t be in the heart of the earth any more. His time was up and it was time for Him to rise up again and be seated at His rightful place at the right hand of God! I find this so incredibly awesome that God used a disobedient dude who hung out in a fish belly for a few days to prophesy His impending resurrection. If that doesn’t show you that Christ can and will use ANYONE for this Glory, I don’t know what does! Jesus Christ came to earth to die…but not just to die but more importantly…TO RISE AGAIN!
