Text: Ephesians 2:10
Who doesn’t enjoy being a blessing to an unexpected recipient? You get a great sense of joy and happiness, a real sense of purpose. I think we feel this way because we were created by God and saved through Christ work on the cross. Ephesians 2:10 puts it like this; we are His workmanship, created for good works, which God prepared in advance, that we should walk in them. I think that these opportunities are a gift, both to us, and the ones we bless. Why? Because it brings God glory. You…. bring God glory… and you can’t do that if you are worthless!
Psalm 149:4 tells us that the Lord takes pleasure in his people. And Psalm 138:6 says that God regards the humble and keeps distance from the proud. Psalm 100:3 says that He made us and we are His! I say all this to bring our egos back down to earth. It is a healthy balance that is suggested. We can go out in the world with confidence because we are His, and He loves us. However, God exalts the humble and humbles the proud. Suffice it to say, we aren’t to let our worthiness in Christ go to our head or give us an excuse to be rude or unkind. We can rest in our relationship with God knowing His thoughts are of peace, not evil He wants good things for us. When we choose to listen to the world view of us it can be heavy, negative and flat out demotivating. This all comes from Satan. These are not the kind of things God wants you to dwell on.
Back to that created for good works thing we talked about at the beginning. We are given these opportunities to serve God by serving others. I was given a recommendation as a new wife. I was told that anytime I find myself upset with my husband, I should make it a point to go out of my way to do something kind for him. These acts of kindness ranged from having his favorite dinner prepared, to dropping off a candy bar or card of appreciation in his truck while at work. I will confirm this was not always done in the spirit of love or forgiveness, but it usually worked out. My frustration would always dissipate little by little, as I allowed myself to really get into the task of doing something kind. I believe it is because even when we are mad or upset the feelings that we are gifted from God when we serve someone, when we choose to bless someone, is a stronger force that that of the negative ones we started with. Our God is always consistent; you can count on Him.
Dear sister, you matter so much to our Heavenly Father, and I beg you to remain in a humble state of mind. So that your relationship with Him can be ever so close and intimate. Sometimes you need to be still so you can hear Gods prompt for an opportunity to serve others. So the next time you’re frustrated pull out your special listening skills and put them to good use! Ask for an opportunity…. God will give you someone to bless, because we are blessed to be a blessing. All of it brings glory back to where it belongs.
