Safe People Preparation
I’m sure we’ve all had a few in our lives. Those friends (or even family) who leave us emotionally, spiritually and physically exhausted after every encounter. Those friends/family who are malicious and aren’t happy unless their upset. Those friends/family that you try to avoid and cringe when you make eye contact because you just know that you’ll be forced to interact with them.
Those examples may be intense ones, but unsafe people in our lives can be subtle too. It could be a close friend or family (for the sake of this study we will call them all friends) who you love spending time with but let their gossiping gets a little out of control; a snide comment here, a vindictive action there. Perhaps it’s you who is that person and YOU are the unsafe person to be around!
During this study we will be dwelling on Psalm 1:1-3. “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.”
Just a caveat to this lesson: this idea was not original to me. My family has been doing a similar study for decades and we go through it often. I am tweaking the content to make it more applicable to modern day and easier to read in this format.
So today, dwell on Psalm 1:1-3 today! Spend some time in prayer that you will be able to discern between safe and unsafe people and that the Lord will open your eyes if YOU are the unsafe one.
