Praising God in the midst
Text: Psalm 42:11
As women Satan attacks our emotions. He can make us feel worthless, unloved, ugly, stupid and the like. And we get caught up in how we FEEL. Sometimes however, our disappointment is indeed legitimate. Whether it be a spouse, a child, a family member or friend we’ve all experienced the heart break of being disappointed. There are times, especially as women, that we can let our disappointment take root in our heart and it can cause sin to grow in us and affect how we treat those around us. We need to focus on the Lord during these times, check ourselves against the Bible and make sure that sin isn’t rooting in our hearts!
Let’s look at Psalm 42:11, our key verse for this study and our memory verse for this week. If anyone had reason to be disappointed, its David! He was hunted by those he loved most! King Saul had been like family to David and King Saul’s son, Jonathon, was David’s best friend! The true king (David) had to go into hiding just to stay alive. Talk about disappointment!
But how did David fight that disappointment turning to sin? HE PRAISED THE LORD! “Hope in God; for I shall praise him, my salvation and my God!” David knew that his hope was in the Lord. He knew that his salvation was secure in the Lord regardless of what King Saul did to him! Praise the Lord during your disappointment sisters. Praise Him when others hurt your heart. Remember that our hope and salvation in Christ.
