Text: Psalm 119:57-64
As we saw yesterday, our only response to God should be obedience. In Discerning the Voice of God Bible Study, Priscilla Shirer speaks specifically of our response to God in the last section of the study. She calls it, the Committed Response. Here is what she says regarding commitment to our response of obedience, “Often I am willing to obey God but I want to keep my ships up and working just in case. It is comforting to have a plan B waiting when obedience isn’t convenient anymore. But God desires that we “burn our ships” annihilate any other means of departure, and throw ourselves wholeheartedly in to what he has asked of us. This requires radical faith and radical trust in God.” How often do we make plans just in case it becomes inconvenient to follow God’s? I would have to say, way too often. Well, God’s word is true and trustworthy and because of this, we need to let go of those alternate “plans” and simply be committed to immediate obedience. When we decide now to be immediately obedient, when we hear God speak later…we will be more inclined to obey without hesitation.
