Psalm 119:92 “Unless thy law had been my delights, I should then have perished in mine affliction.”
This verse sounds confusing right off the bat; it’s got some negatives in there that are not standard in todays English. What this verse is saying in today’s English is this:
“I would have died in my misery if I had not followed your laws”.
Does this make more sense now? I would have DIED IN MY SINS…. IF….I had not followed Your WORD (The Bible).
In this passage, the word Delight means “Enjoyment, pleasure”. So let’s read it again:
“I would have died in my sins, if I did not get enjoyment out of following your laws.”
Do we get enjoyment following God’s laws? Think of David, the author of this Psalm. He is called the man after God’s own heart. Yet, he was a liar, a murderer, an adulterer! However, David understood his sin. He KNEW he was a wicked, vile sinner. He CONFESSED his wicked, vile sins to the Lord and REPENTED! David also DELIGHTED in following God’s way. He looked for ways to obey the Lord. He SOUGHT the Lord to learn more about his precepts!
Challenge for today. SEEK ways to follow His laws!
